Half-Life is a game by Valve Software that released on November 8th 1998. This game has been hailed as one of the greatest video games ever made, with over 50 game of the year nominations.

Development:

The game began development in late 1996 by former microsoft employee gabe newel and another former microsoft employee. The game was developed on the Quake Engine by ID software and was shown at E3 in 1997. The game was said to be one of the best games shown at E3 that year. Later on in 1997, Valve released early versions of the game to the press. One such version, 0.52, from September 4th, 1997, was leaked onto Reddit in early 2013. The game's development was restarted in early 1998, and was also shown at e3 1998. Despite being rushed, the game was released in good quality later that year. The game had a Dreamcast port in the works in 2000-2001 by Gearbox, who also created Half-Life: Opposing Force, and included Half-Life: Blue Shift. The port was canceled in June 2001, and an early version from May 23rd, 2001, was leaked onto the internet some time in 2003. A sequel was in development starting in mid-1999 and was finished in mid-2004.
