Half-Life is a game by Valve Software that released on November 8th, 1998. This game has been hailed as one of the greatest video games ever made, with over 50 "Game of the Year" nominations.

Development:

Development on the game started in late 1996 by former Microsoft employees Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington. The game was developed on the Quake Engine by ID software and was first shown at E3 in 1997. In that time, Valve released early versions of the game to the press. The game's development restarted in early 1998 and was shown on E3 the same year. After a successful release of the game, Gearbox Software created expansions Half-Life: Opposing Force and Half-Life: Blue Shift. Around 2000-2001 Gearbox started development on a Dreamcast port of the game, which was canceled in June 2001, and instead, Half-Life: Decay expansion was made. In 2004, Valve Software had created a critically acclaimed sequel Half-Life 2.
