The E3 2002 Demo is a tech demo of Half-Life 2 that was originally intended to be shown at E3 2002. Valve, lacking confidence in the demo, ultimately decided to delay the announcement of Half-Life 2 to E3 2003 and continue refining the Source engine.[1] As a result, the demo was not released officially until Half-Life 2's 20th anniversary.
