Talk:Core Hub Era
The Core Hub Era demonstrates Valve's first attempt to create a proper follow-up to Portal after the cancellation of F-STOP. This era is named for its inclusion of a hub world that would have interconnected the game's six testing courses.
Gameplay
The player was able to progress through the testing courses in any order.
Story
The player wakes up in a destroyed version of Aperture Science and discovers GLaDOS's chamber. The player reactivates GLaDOS and attempts to repair her by retrieving six personality cores. The ending of this iteration of Portal 2 is unknown.

Mel
Mel was the original protagonist for Portal 2. When playtesters were disappointed by GLaDOS not recognizing the player, Mel was replaced by Chell and became part of Portal 2's co-op campaign before being cut from the game completely.

GLaDOS in her "carcass" form acts very erratically as a result of being destroyed by Chell in the first game.

Portal 2 originally had 6 personality cores that the player needed to retrieve.
