Likely being very close to the SDK pistol, this iteration introduces a new blocky grey mesh that looks closer to a real Glock. A new animation set was introduced, and would stick around for the remainder of the pistol's development, barring the reload, which is much more elaborate than previous and later versions. A silencer bodygroup was introduced with this iteration of the weapon. This iteration was used for animating the Glock's later animations.

More changes were made to the Glock than to the arms this time, as the Glock now has a new high quality texture set, replacing the grey with a dark violet blue. The mesh was very slightly modified between E3 1998 and Day One's release. Reload sound effects were finally added, and the pistol's firing sound was now changed to it's final revision.

For Gearbox Software's Half-Life expansions, they created their own version of the Glock. It uses the same mesh as the final pistol, however the chrome was mostly removed, and the top and side textures were combined. The back texture was removed in favour of projection mapping the side of the pistol throughout most of the weapon. It was also raised to compensate for Gearbox's new hand meshes, making the long antiquated silencer bodygroup misaligned. The animations and sounds remain the same.

The Glock is a weapon in Half-Life, also referred to as the "9mm Handgun" internally. Throughout the development of Half-Life, it got its own fair share of changes. While throughout development the weapon was always a Glock, visually it's one of the weapons that was changed the most.

Version 1: 0.52 Alpha

HLAlphaGLOCK.png

The earliest version of the weapon appeared in the 0.52 Alpha, being held by a scientist's sleeve. The pistol itself is noticably different from it's later revisions, having a more rounded slide, being coloured a faint metallic blue and having a prominent duck's tail.

Version 2: 0.61 Alpha

237.jpg

This version of the weapon was slightly different from it's predecessor, having slightly different textures. However, it's notable for having the first reload animation out of all of the pistols.

Version 3: SDK

237.jpg

In the texture folder for the Magnum in the Half-Life SDK, there are leftovers suggesting the Glock initially had gloveless hands with red HEV sleeves before the choice was made to make the hands gloved. Curiously this version of the weapon uses the earlier Glock mesh, instead of the later meshes used.

Version 4: Beta

Likely being very close to the SDK pistol, this iteration introduces a new blocky grey mesh that looks closer to a real Glock. A new animation set was introduced, and would stick around for the remainder of the pistol's development, barring the reload, which is much more elaborate than previous and later versions. A silencer bodygroup was introduced with this iteration of the weapon. This iteration was used for animating the Glock's later animations.

Version 5: E3 1998

Silo early02.jpg

This version of the Glock swaps the red HEV arms out with the final game's orange HEV arms. The Glock's mesh now has beveled edges, and can be found in SDK under "new_rounded glock.max". This version of the Pistol was featured in the "Offices" video shown at E3 1998, where it used the silenced pistol's firing sounds, and had no reload sound effects.

Version 6: Day One

HL1DayoneGLOCK.png

More changes were made to the Glock than to the arms this time, as the Glock now has a new high quality texture set, replacing the grey with a dark violet blue. The mesh was very slightly modified between E3 1998 and Day One's release. Reload sound effects were finally added, and the pistol's firing sound was now changed to it's final revision.

Version 7: Retail

HL1RetailGLOCK.png

After Day One, the pistol had very little changes made. The textures were downscaled to save on space, the weapon's origin was moved back very slightly and the hand mesh was replaced.

Version 7.5: Gearbox

HLOpForceGLOCK.png

For Gearbox Software's Half-Life expansions, they created their own version of the Glock. It uses the same mesh as the final pistol, however the chrome was mostly removed, and the top and side textures were combined. The back texture was removed in favour of projection mapping the side of the pistol throughout most of the weapon. It was also raised to compensate for Gearbox's new hand meshes, making the long antiquated silencer bodygroup misaligned. The animations and sounds remain the same.
