The Scout, the go-to class for players who prefer being more mobile in nature, has gone through some drastic design changes throughout his appearances in the series, although most appearances have kept him resembling a military Scout to some degree.

Version 1: QuakeWorld Team Fortress

In QuakeWorld Team Fortress, the Scout wears little armour, mainly kneepads and gauntlets. He also wears a headset and a beret.

Version 2: Team Fortress Classic

The version of TFC Scout seen in the release build of Team Fortress Classic, up until 2001, is very detailed for a model of its' time. In this version of the model, he loses the original headset and beret, but gains a cap in their place. He now wears a team-coloured (orange for Red Team, light blue for Blue Team) shirt and team-coloured pants. He also has a bandolier over his shoulder and has a combat knife on his belt.

Version 2.5: Team Fortress Classic HD Model

TFC Scout HD.png

The TFC playermodels were remade in 2001, to match Gearbox Software's HD Pack models released alongside Half-Life: Blue Shift. In this new design, Scout loses the facepaint, knife, and the Scout logo t-shirt. He now dons leather gloves, a muted team-coloured jumpsuit, a backpack, goggles, and a headset that was worn on the original QWTF design. This design is considered, in-universe, to be the canon design to the Classic Scout.
