The HL1 MaxFile Leak or "Half-Life Animation Development Files Leak" is from the looks of it a earlier and way more stripped version of the HL:Source repo with 3D Studio Max project files preserved, hence the name "MaxFile Leak".

It was leaked on April 9th 2024 by Garjulio to archive.org, but not obtained by him, though unfortunately the actual obtainee will have to be kept anonymous.

Barney

Wide Eyes Mesh

The 0.61 or commonly known as Wide Eyes Barney's mesh can be found in "75correctscale.max" albeit with incorrect rigging. This mesh can also be found in some of the SDK anims.

Early retail Barney variants

"BARNEY-X_Biped1.max" and "BARNEY-X_Biped2.max" both appear to contain slightly earlier versions of the retail Barney, although with differences. First mesh appears to be somewhat incomplete lacking a rig while the other one is fully rigged and textured. Although different, both max files call for 2 textures we don't have, "BX_Front_All1.bmp" and "BX_Back_All1.bmp".

Sculpt Barney

A high-quality sculpt version of Barney can be found in "BARNEY-X_Import1.max".

It seems to resemble his earlier "Ted Barney" look while mostly having the style of Retail Barney, though the head is clearly taken and modified from Slick.

Keep in mind this does NOT mean it is a direct high poly sculpt of Teds mesh.

Retail Barney

The temp folder appears to contain retail Barney's mesh as well in "BARNEY-X_Template_Biped1.max".

Scientist

Sci2

Sci2 is commonly referred to the concept art model of the scientist. The scientist folder contains many sequences with this model.

The animations for Sci2 also includes some improved versions of their Sci1 equivalents and whole new ones as well which some got used in retail.

Alpha/Beta Scientist Mesh

A good majority of the Maxfiles use the Alpha mesh of the scientist for animation.

The files also include a reference mesh max for it in Scientist_Template_Pose1.max

Some also contain a higher poly version of it in Editable Mesh as seen below.

Zombie

Female Scientist

For some unexplainable reason the "old_Zombie\Temp" folder contains a high-quality sculpt of the female scientist in "FScience_Import1.max". It is unknown how it made its way into the folder, but it's speculated that it has been used for scaling purposes.

Concept art zombie

Found in the same folder, "Zombie1_Import1.max" contains the earliest zombie mesh ever made. It appears to have been based on the concept art by Harry Teasley
