Proposed cover art for Half-Life: Team Fortress.

Valve's Team Fortress and Half-Life: Team Fortress are working titles for the 1998 incarnation of Team Fortress 2. It was the first version of Team Fortress 2 to be developed by Valve after the company employed the members of Team Fortress Software.

Gameplay

Contemporary sources described several distinct gameplay mechanics that were intended to enhance the game's realism.[1][2]

  • A player's firearm accuracy would decrease while they are running, and increase while they are crouching.
  • To retrieve ammunition from a killed player, one would need to loot their body by crouching over it for approximately 2 seconds.

Classes

Valve's Team Fortress had 9 classes.

  • Commander
  • Light Infantry
  • Medium Infantry / Field Medic
  • Heavy Infantry
  • Rocket Infantry
  • Commando
  • Engineer
  • Sniper
  • Spy
