+ | I just wanted to point out a minor thing about these unused visgroups... http://vcc.wikia.com/wiki/Half_Life_2_-_Unused_Visgroups so on d2_coast_01, there's "unrotated shack". The article does mention it, and describes it, but it left out a detail, the shack has a crossbow on one of the shelves. It shows as ERROR (not sure why). That suggests that either the crossbow was to be obtained way earlier, on the first map, or maybe the shack w/ the crossbow was initially placed somewhere else, and was copied from there (from some later map. Maybe the one that has the crossbow in retail?). Also, that prefab was reused on d2_coast_11 (except bottom wall texture and minus the crossbow). I don't think there are any other maps that have it so I don't think the crossbow was placed in a shack somewhere else, I think it was obtainable from d2_coast_01. I'm inexperienced with wiki editing so I didn't want to risk messing up the article, so I thought I'd drop this info here. | ||

Since their release in the Facepunch-Era leaks, Half-Life 2's map sources have been ripe for investigation. One of their most notable features is their large number of unused visgroups, ranging from alternate positions of dumpsters to entire cut sequences and early sections of maps.
Choose a section below:
Trainstation The trainstation chapters, a fitting introduction. |
Canals The canals, where the airboat comes and goes. |
Black Mesa East, Ravenholm The point when Half-Life 2 briefly becomes a horror game. |
Coast The coast chapters, the largest and most "nonlinear" of the entire game. |
Prison Freeman allies himself with the antlions and storms his way through a Combine prison. |
City 17 Freeman fights alongside a group of rebels to win a civil war through City 17. There are surprisingly few visgroups. |
Citadel The ending chapters, where Freeman finally meets up with Breen in his own citadel. |
